In 2020 skateboarding will become an Olympic sport with Mens and Womens’ Park and Street events taking place in Tokyo. Whilst park and street riding has been enjoyed by many for a long time, this inclusion in a main stream event is bound to bring a focus to the sport that hasn’t been seen before.
Of course, you do not have to be at an Olympic standard to get out and enjoy skateboarding. Start with mastering your balance on straights, and then build up slowly. With a bit of advice, possibly a lesson or too from a fellow skateboarder, lots of practice and some falling down, you will soon develop your own style and, if you want to, be ready to tackle ramps, rails and bowls.
At SP8BOARDS, we strongly support diversity and inclusivity in skateboarding and look forward to welcoming new riders into our community. 2020 may be a couple of years away but time has a habit of flying past and so we have taken the opportunity as part of the launch of our 2018 range to revamp our trick deck range.
So what can you get?
Essentially, we have 3 “park” decks to order online:
Urban (£75) – a traditional trick deck at 31.5”L x 7.75”W with twin identical kicktails. We suggest a sugar skull motif for a bang up to date look.
Urban XL (£85) – the shape of a traditional trick deck but longer and wider at 35.5”L x 9”W. Suitable for the larger rider or for anyone who wants a versatile board that will take you from the park to technical downhill sliding. Our standard comes with a sugar skull motif similar to its baby brother.
Goldfish (£90) – so called because of its’ shape, this board is a tribute to the 1980s when riding in drained out swimming pools became popular (obviously not in the UK where puddles are more common than open air pools). A deep concave with a slight front kicktail and larger usuable rear kicktail, this board is for the bowl rider who wants a bit of retro style too.
If you need some advice on which board would be most suitable for you, please get in touch. We are always happy to help.
Our decks are made out of 9 ply birch and are handmade and hand painted to order. It will arrive within 2 -3 weeks of placing your order, fully gripped and with holes drilled to fix your own trucks and wheels. If you prefer, we can, at a supplement, provide you with a complete board, ready to ride.
Order online through our shop.
And of course, if you do not see anything you like, we can customise a board to your dimensions and design – just get in touch!
